The popular entertainer said she would swear off animal products and even she and her fellow friends have banned caffeine, sugar, gluten, eggs, fish, cheese and gluten.
The entertainer has been blogging about her ups and downs but if the diet leads to her success in losing weight, you bet that millions of people will probably follow her lead.
There are several forms of the 21 day detox diet. One popular version is also known as the Martha’s Vineyard Diet Detox and by no means is it a traditional diet. The goal is to cleanse the body and lose weight.
There are other 21-day detox that go by phases which include plant-based phase, live-food diet and and a liquid diet.
The goal of the detox diet is to drink liquids every two hours which include water, homemade soups, juices made from fruits and vegetables.
Once the body is free of toxins, the body’s metabolism is increased and thus, pounds are shed. Roni Deluz, a registered nurse and naturopathic doctor created the liquid diet to help heal herself. According to Deluz, “Rest comes from not chewing and indigesting nutrients in liquid form. Eliminating toxins, resting the body and engaging in elimination therapy, cleansing and rebuilding the body so it can shed weight”.
For this plan, people take supplements such as enzyme capsules, an herb cleansing formula, aloe vera, lymph drainage massages, cellulite treatment, liver flushes, kidney cleansing, body wraps, detoxifying baths and weekly coffee enemas and colonics.
Physical activity includes exercise (approved by your physician) which can including walking, yoga, trampoline jumping and more.
According to the Martha’s Vineyard Diet Detox, after 21 days, dieters go off the detox plan and their bodies are cleaned and no longer tolerating junk foods.
So, literally what people can eat through this detox diet are liquids every two hours. Consuming 40-48 ounces of water, 32-40 ounces of herbal tea, 16 ounces of vegetable-based soup and 32 ounces of a drink from vegetables, vegetable juice or a berry drink.
According to the American Dietetic Association, the plan provides 1000 calories and 20 grams of protein per day, depending on your choices.
Cons of the 21-Day Detox Diet
Cons of the diet is that it lacks essential proteins, fats and fiber which could be dangerous. Also, it’s a type of diet that is very strict and you have to give up quite a bit of food in order to eat foods allowed in the detox diet.
Also, since it’s not a traditional diet, the things advocated in this diet are typically for someone who has disposable income. Not everyone can have cellulite treatments, liver flushes, kidney cleansing, body wraps and massages in a weekly basis. Even buying a juicer may not be affordable for everyone.
Nutritionist say that this diet restricts too many calories and people lose weight because of severe caloric restriction rather than detoxification.
So, do people lose weight through the 21-Day Detox Diet. People have sure done that but it’s not for everyone. It’s very different than any other diet and requires quite a bit of your money.
